Frequently asked questions

My TV isn't discovered automatically

Make sure your Mac and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network and the TV is powered on. If discovery still comes up empty, add the TV manually using its IP address โ€” you can find it on the TV under Settings โ†’ General โ†’ Network โ†’ Network Status.

I get "Connection failed" errors

Verify the TV's IP address is still correct (it can change when your router restarts), make sure the TV is on, and check that no firewall is blocking local network traffic on ports 8001/8002.

macOS asks for Local Network permission

RemoteControlBuddy needs Local Network access to find and talk to your TV. Allow it in System Settings โ†’ Privacy & Security โ†’ Local Network.

The TV asks me to allow a connection

The first time the app connects, your TV shows a permission prompt. Select "Allow" on the TV with your regular remote. If you denied it, you can reset permissions on the TV under Settings โ†’ General โ†’ External Device Manager โ†’ Device Connection Manager.

Which TVs are supported?

Samsung Smart TVs running Tizen (most models from 2016 onward). Other brands (LG, Sony, etc.) are not currently supported.
